Jedediah Smudge (a.k.a. J.S., a.k.a. Smudge) is a fictional character created by ____ _____. In 2013 J.S. was supposed to be the protagonist of a great American novel. That may still happen. But it’s unlikely. The writer of that novel decided just to tell the story as an autobiography, thus eliminating the need for Smudge. Smudge since then was largely forgotten. No one in the intervening years picked him up. Until recently. That writer, now quite famous and wealthy for his autobiographical memoir, came back across this webpage and thought, “Hm. Smudge.” Soon after, he bought this site with an eye to a full re-invention of the Smudge brand.
Smudge will rise from the shadows with a long simmering ideal. Burning inside him.
Smudge is sad. Lonely. Benevolent. Smudge is dilapidated. Sometimes without a home. Like so many Americans you never hear about, he was forgotten. Without a voice in government, or advertising, or entertainment, that speaks to him. As you might guess, Smudge is not popular. Not wealthy. Not successful. Smudge is kindhearted, but a failure. He can be angry and aggressive. A loss. But. He has a dream.
Smudge wants to bring perspective to the United States. He’s not reliable, and that’s what’s so great about him. He doesn’t give a damn about the tropes. He doesn’t feel he’s worthy of public attention. And that’s just the reason he believes you should give him a chance.
